MADASTER – THE DIGITAL LIBRARY OF MATERIALS
What is Madaster?
Madaster is the online registry for materials and products. On this digital platform, buildings are registered, including the materials and products that were used in their construction. Documenting, registering and archiving of the materials applied in buildings and construction objects makes their reuse easier, encourages smart design and eliminates waste. By doing so, each building becomes a reservoir of materials.
Who is Madaster for?
Madaster’s target audience includes the owners of real estate and infrastructure as well as the organisations that serve them, such as contractors, developers, architects, engineers, online marketplaces and deconstruction or harvesting companies. Madaster supports its platform users in organising, managing and utilising data throughout the entire lifetime of the buildings and objects.
What is the Material Passport?
Madaster automatically generates secure, web-based passports for registered buildings and construction objects. These passports contain information about the quality, origins and location of materials and products used in the construction of buildings and other construction objects and provide insight into the material, circular and financial (salvage) value of these properties.
APPLYING CIRCULAR METHODS FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
We regard the Earth as a closed system from which there must be no waste. Certain raw materials are non-renewable resources and may therefore become scarce. In order to keep materials available indefinitely, they need to be registered and documented. In this way, by giving them an identity on the Madaster platform, they become a source that is available for reuse, and each construction object can be designed and managed as a material reservoir.
THE MADASTER PASSPORT
The Madaster Passport documents the identity of buildings and objects. Madaster supports various initiatives to realise national and international guidelines and standards for materials, products and building passports or logbooks. We ensure that relevant data can be registered and documented, preferably automated from Building Information Models (BIM) and using smart connections to various data sources on products and materials (e.g. life cycle assessment and CO2 data), financial sources (the value of materials), and data sources on the health-related aspects of materials (toxicity).
OUR ROUTE TO INNOVATION
Since the start of our platform in 2017, we have been renewing, improving and rebuilding it. Innovation is our core business and we do this by means of a roadmap. All improvements and additions are available to all users and are announced in our release notes. Release notes and all technical documentation are available from the platform’s documentation site.
Madaster will continue to strengthen its partnerships with international and national databases, as well as specific producer databases.
With access to even larger amounts of data, Madaster can further increase its insights into circularity, detachability, embodied carbon and residual value.
To offer greater value, Madaster will begin the development of three exciting new features consisting of:
- a track & trace functionality for producers to know where their products are located;
- aggregated material reporting within a user-specified geographic region;
- the launch of Madaster’s infrastructure tool.
To improve user experience, Madaster will develop new 3D analysis tools, dashboards and user profiles. Madaster will also continue refining and improving its material passports to achieve greater compliance with third-party building certifications and local regulations. Lastly, Madaster will align its reporting outputs with criteria identified in the EU Taxonomy.
Madaster works with a wide variety of partners who are skilled in the application and use of the Madaster Platform. You can check out the partner network on our dedicated country pages, see the links in the footer of this page. And if you would like to receive more information about the Madaster partnership or if you are interested in becoming a partner yourself, please contact us via email.
