VDNDP USES MATERIAL PASSPORTS TO BUILD ON THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Amsterdam – 4 april – Today, VDNDP joined Madaster as a partner and enterprise licence holder. The architectural firm is convinced of the fact that a material passport provides insight into a building’s material, circular and financial value to the architects, builders, developers, consultants, financiers, owners and users of real estate. This simplifies making sensible and sustainable choices, and encourages circular construction practice among partners along the chain.
Material passports
All users of Madaster can generate a secure, web-based material passport for their buildings. A material passport contains information about the quality and origins of materials, the disassembling options of the various products and their current location. In addition, circular and financial information flows are linked, thus revealing the historical, current and future value of materials, products, elements, the building and all of these combined. This makes materials easier to recover and reuse, in cases of renovation and restoration and prevents them from ending up as waste.
Development process
Madaster and VDNDP will start a development process to link material and product data of a certain construction plan automatically to a material passport. In this way, it will become even easier, in the future, to generate a material passport from multiple data sources.
‘Madaster offers the tools for unlocking data from BIM and translating them into an easy-to-manage material passport. This means that the right information will be available at the right time, for all partners along the construction chain—something which, in turn, encourages future-proof construction. As a partner of Madaster, VDNDP underscores the importance of circular construction, and intends to contribute in actual practice. We feel very proud of this fact.’ Rob Oomen, Partnership Manager Madaster
‘In addition to the production of useful BIM models, VDNDP also supplies architectural plans. We would like to apply this specification expertise for further enhancement of the digitisation process. Linked specifications that, in addition to product characteristics, also include construction and assembly methods of elements/objects are indispensable to ensure optimal use of a material passport, in the future.’ Wilma Visser, partner VDNDP
