Partnership between Drees & Sommer and Madaster creates SMART circularity

Partnership between Drees & Sommer and Madaster creates SMART circularity

Drees & Sommer Netherlands and Madaster Services Netherlands have entered into a collaboration to provide clients with even better service in their transition towards a circular economy. According to project manager Michel van Gageldonk of Drees & Sommer Netherlands: ‘As a partner of Madaster, we will be able to use the data from the online registry of materials to provide our clients with practical advice about the reuse of available materials from registered and documented buildings, during the various phases of a real estate or infrastructure project.’

Specific building information

When the materials that are incorporated into buildings and infrastructural objects are documented, registered and archived in Madaster, this makes them easier to reuse, stimulates smart design and eliminates waste. Michel van Gageldonk: ‘The online platform provides insight into the material, circular and financial salvage value of a building. We can start using these figures from the design process onwards. The tool also allows you to measure the environmental impact of a building over the years. And you can see — practically in real time — what is available and where it is located, and thus reuse it during the realisation of your project.’

Focus on sustainability

Sustainability is one of the focal points of Drees & Sommer, an internationally operating real estate consultancy and project management organisation. EPEA, part of Drees & Sommer, is the founder of the Cradle-to-Cradle concept and the research and consultancy institute for the implementation of sustainable solutions within the company.

The services provided by Drees & Sommer, EPEA and Madaster complement each other perfectly,’ says Michel. ‘We take stock of materials and possibilities and apply them, EPEA does the research, which, for example, leads to the creation of a material passport and a building circularity passport. Madaster subsequently registers the relevant asset information and links this to source data, environmental data and degree of circularity. Together, we are laying the foundations for a circular economy.’

At Madaster, we look forward to the cooperation and are very proud to have Drees & Sommer Netherlands as part of our partner network.
