BIM4ALL PROVIDES MADASTER TRAINING COURSES TO STIMULATE THE USE OF MATERIAL PASSPORTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR.

BIM4ALL PROVIDES MADASTER TRAINING COURSES TO STIMULATE THE USE OF MATERIAL PASSPORTS IN THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR.

In October 2019, BIM expertise company BIM4ALL will start providing Madaster training courses focused on facilitating the implementation of material passports in the construction sector. In these courses, building owners, financiers, designers, suppliers, developers and builders will learn how easy it is to use BIM models to generate a material passport. The comprehensive information in a material passport simplifies the use and reuse of sustainable materials and stimulates circular construction practices.

WASTE IS MATERIAL WITHOUT AN IDENTITY

Madaster functions as an online library that registers and documents buildings and the products and materials applied within them, similar to how land parcellation and landownership are registered in a land registry. The Madaster Platform can be used by everyone to generate a material passport for their real estate objects. A material passport contains information about the quality, origins and location of a building’s materials and provides insight into the circular value of that building. This simplifies the sustainable use and reuse of materials, stimulates smart designs and eliminates waste. Buildings, thus, become documented ‘repositories’ of materials.

‘Our planet is a closed system, which is why we need to facilitate unlimited amounts of limited editions. The current situation shows that materials, once they have been used, lose their identify and end up as waste. Such waste can be eliminated by providing materials with a documented identity using a material passport.’- Thomas Rau, initiator Madaster Foundation

FROM BIM MODEL TO MATERIAL PASSPORT

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a methodology often applied in the construction sector. Each element within a BIM model is linked to certain data; for instance, the precise dimensions of those elements or their characteristics, such as in relation to fire safety and carrying function. At the start of a construction process, much time and effort is put into creating an effective and reliable BIM model. However, once the build has come to an end and the project is completed, the BIM model is not reused to its fullest potential, even though the reuse of the data could lead to many new applications. One such application is the creation of Madaster’s material passport.

‘Because we first build everything in virtual form, we are able to reduce construction errors and building costs. By coupling the data with Madaster, construction projects can be developed more sustainably. This is in line with BIM4ALL’s mission to continually improve the construction sector — for the future of construction and of the Earth as our supplier of resources.’ – Jeffrey Wieldraayer, Manager BIM4ALL B.V.

BIM4ALL advises, coordinates and trains architects, builders, developers, contractors, engineering firms and education institutes in the field of BIM. A training course has been developed in collaboration with Madaster to teach participants how BIM model elements can be coupled with a material passport, within the secure environment of the Madaster Platform.

THE TRAINING COURSES

The training courses will be held at the BIM4ALL headquarters in Rijssen, as well as on location. Each course will have a maximum of 8 participants. This leaves room for interaction, questions and personal coaching, which ensures that the courses are always in tune with the daily practice of participants. Participants are provided with a certificate upon completion of the training course. The courses are provided by BIM4ALL; the first of which will be held on Friday 4 October 2019. For more information about the training courses, please contact Robbert Evers, trainer bij BIM4ALL or check the training course webpage: https://www.bim4all.com/trainingen/madaster-platform.
